About The Position

This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groups, serving diverse communication infrastructure needs. The Mechanical Engineer will apply engineering principles to technical assignments and projects, making independent decisions based on sound engineering and scientific methods. This role involves active participation beyond the department to resolve process and product issues, enhancing manufacturing capabilities through new ideas and methods. The engineer will independently execute projects focused on cost reduction, productivity gains, process flow, capacity increases, scrap reduction, and process/product enhancements.

  • Min of BS degree Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing in an around-the-clock production environment, including troubleshooting equipment and processes, conducting trend analysis of recurring errors, and developing proposals/designs/training to reduce errors and machine downtime.
  • Own division Quality documents pertaining to winding technology.
  • Interface daily with operators and production team leaders to monitor and correct possible process fluctuations.
  • Manage all aspects of bringing new equipment into production, including financial justification, design, specification, purchasing, and spending tracking.
  • Develop maintenance and operator training documentation, conduct equipment qualification and initial training of production personnel, and make provisions for repair parts stocking levels.
  • Formally document all aspects of the project using various project and change management tools.
  • Initiate and implement process or equipment improvements to reduce scrap/cost, increase run rates, or improve overall product performance and quality.
  • Support the transfer of new cabling and fiber technology or materials from development groups to the production environment.
  • Provide processing support during product development, develop plans for equipment/process implementation into production, and ensure new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer.
  • Ensure all production and maintenance documentation is completed (e.g., MI's, SOP's, PM's, calibration).
  • Take an active role in continuous improvement team activities and conduct tasks consistent with the DMAIC/Six Sigma methodology.
  • Provide excellent presentation skills for audiences ranging from manufacturing associates to executive level personnel.
