This Mechanical Design Engineer role is part of the Thermo King North America Trailer business, focusing on researching, designing, validating, and maintaining products. The engineer will collaborate across multiple regions, interacting frequently with global manufacturing facilities, dealerships, and customers. Key responsibilities include supporting New Product Development programs to meet performance and Quality/Cost/Delivery goals, and delivering Quality, Sustaining, and Productivity engineering projects by teaming with Product Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Field Service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent and at least 2+ years’ experience in engineering or product development is required.
  • Experience with part design for formed sheet metal, stampings, machining, weldments, castings, injection molded parts is expected.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently understand, condense, and organize information to make informed engineering decisions.
  • Familiarity with problem solving processes, tools and techniques (8D, 6 sigma / DMAIC, root cause analysis tools- DFMEA, 5-why, fishbone etc.)
  • Experience with product development phase/gate processes
  • Self-motivated with strong collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams spread across multiple geographical regions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Knowledge in mechanical design, calculation and verification methods.
  • Experience with refrigeration systems, coils, compressors, valves, structural weldments, engines, and power transmission systems are a plus.
  • Creo proficiency preferred.
  • Familiarity with Windchill/Teamcenter is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systematic problem-solving skills to define issues, identify root causes, and develop and implement corrective actions to meet customer needs.
  • Generate, evaluate, analyze and develop design concepts for mechanical components and assemblies to meet product requirements provided by Product Management.
  • Develop clear technical requirements in collaboration with product development teams and suppliers, and present materials in formal and informal environments.
  • Develop DFMEA and DVP (design verification plan), execute test plans, and analyze and summarize test results.
  • Conduct design reviews, provide status updates to stakeholders, and present projects to leadership for approvals as part of our phase gate process.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering designs, drawings, documentation and Bill of Materials.
  • Maintain orderly project records. Analyze, condense and present data results and recommendations.
  • Author lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze and interpret results and execute design updates based on the results.
