Mechanical Engineer - Manufacturing

Apogee•West Chester, OH

About The Position

Harmon, Inc. is hiring a hands-on manufacturing engineering professional to improve manufacturing processes, productivity, quality, cost, and overall operational performance. The role independently owns improvement initiatives, technical problem solving, process optimization, and project execution while working with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and shop-floor employees to deliver sustainable, measurable results. The engineer works on the manufacturing floor to investigate recurring problems, remove bottlenecks, and improve process flow. Using data and structured problem solving, the role turns improvement opportunities into measurable operational and financial results. It includes improving fabrication, machining, CNC, assembly, tooling, fixtures, equipment, layouts, and manufacturing methods, as well as developing standard work and validating that changes are sustained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Manufacturing experience with hands-on process improvement and problem solving.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fabrication, machining, CNC, welding, assembly, tooling, or fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute manufacturing improvements to increase productivity, throughput, quality, safety, and cost performance.
  • Own improvement projects from problem identification through implementation, validation, and sustainment.
  • Work on the manufacturing floor to solve recurring problems, remove bottlenecks, and improve process flow.
  • Use data and structured problem solving to produce measurable operational and financial results.
  • Maintain accountability and follow-through for assigned improvement actions and project deliverables.
  • Move from analysis to action by testing practical solutions, removing barriers, and balancing safety, quality, cost, and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with operators, supervisors, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and leadership; communicate technical issues clearly and build alignment around solutions.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and identify waste, constraints, variation, and recurring operational issues.
  • Lead manufacturing and Continuous Improvement projects; establish objectives, actions, milestones, expected impact, and completion dates.
  • Lead structured root-cause investigations into issues involving equipment, tooling, quality, productivity, labor, or process performance; develop countermeasures, verify effectiveness, and prevent recurrence.
  • Improve fabrication, machining, CNC, and assembly processes through setup reduction, cycle-time improvement, tooling optimization, process refinement, and improved methods.
  • Develop, modify, and improve tooling, fixtures, equipment, layouts, and manufacturing methods to improve repeatability, ergonomics, flow, quality, and operational performance.
  • Analyze labor, production, downtime, throughput, scrap, quality, and capacity data to identify constraints and opportunities; improve labor utilization, material flow, machine utilization, and available capacity.
  • Develop and maintain standard work, work instructions, process documentation, and visual controls; partner with Operations to ensure improvements are practical and sustained.
  • Develop business cases, quantify expected impact, track project performance, and validate improvements in productivity, labor efficiency, cost, throughput, equipment utilization, scrap, rework, and process stability.
