About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer within our Engineering Services team, you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers on a wide variety of capital and expense projects. Your goal will be to support the consistent execution of high-quality projects while collaborating closely with operations and field teams. Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, with P.Eng. certification (or immediate eligibility) in NB is required
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering is required (with experience in mechanical equipment)
  • 2+ years of petrochemical refining or similar oil & gas experience is required
  • Experience with project execution and mechanical workflow within an engineering organization
  • Working practical knowledge with industry codes and standards including ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME BTH-1, API 660, API 661, API 530/560, API 579, API 610, API 936, etc.
  • Must be familiar with repair, alterations, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and CRN registration process for registered pressure equipment/piping in Canada
  • Safety as a core value mindset
  • Understanding of current technology issues within mechanical engineering field, along with keen analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills
  • Ability to make timely decisions considering competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to see beyond area of expertise, and understand interdisciplinary dependencies
  • Ability to make timely decisions on technical matters of consequence after reviewing relevant documents
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability from conception to completion with no or limited supervision
  • Collaborate and build relationships with Irving Oil operating teams, external contacts and experts
  • Self-motivated with a positive, solutions-focused attitude

  • Working knowledge of Compress, HTRI, and NozzlePro is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute mechanical engineering work on projects from beginning to completion
  • Responsible for design, modification, specification and procurement of mechanical equipment such as heat exchangers, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, packaged systems, etc.
  • Duties may include bid package preparation, bid condition, vendor data review, and generating engineering work orders
  • Assist in scoping, assigning budgets, resource planning and setting schedules for the project's mechanical scope
  • Develop quality engineering deliverables within committed scope, schedule and budget
  • Review and approve 3rd party documents and drawings while assuring compliance with codes and project requirements
  • Supervise and inspect installation modification, and provide construction support and commissioning of engineering systems at construction sites
  • Engage in continuous improvement, and identify ways to optimize systems, and procedures
  • Conduct field visits to assess design-related conditions, working safely in all weather with required PPE, and performing physically demanding tasks—including climbing, bending, and working at heights or in confined spaces
