Mechanical Engineer 3

Lam Research•Tualatin, OR

About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer in Lam Research’s Global Products Group, you will design and define mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for Lam’s etch and deposition products. You will support systems throughout their lifecycle, from concept through productization, and contribute feasibility studies, testing, detailed design, fabrication guidance, and technology packaging information. The role involves designing components from a range of materials, analyzing and validating designs, and ensuring documentation meets SEMI, Lam, and industry standards. You will communicate design intent and validation results, collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to deliver manufacturable, high-quality, cost-optimized solutions, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8 or more years of experience; or a master’s degree with 6 or more years of experience; or a PhD with 3 or more years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical presentation skills.
  • High proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as CREO, Siemens NX, ProE, or SolidWorks.
  • Hands-on experimental and design background coupled with solid engineering skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience in project management, managing projects, or problem solving while managing time and multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full lifecycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization, including conceptualization, design, CAD modeling, development, testing, and validation.
  • Design components using metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI and Lam standards and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Conduct structural, finite element, thermal, heat-transfer, stress, vibration, fluid- and gas-flow, and manufacturability analyses to specify designs.
  • Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
  • Prepare reports and technical presentations that communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to diverse audiences in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure solutions are manufacturable, high-quality, cost-optimized, and meet requirements.
  • Prepare deliverables including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), technical specifications, risk analyses, test specifications, and design review presentations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

Benefits
