About The Position

Barr is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design business unit, working with multidisciplinary project teams to serve industrial clients in the mining, power generation, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors. You will use your expertise to develop and review engineering calculations, system specifications, and construction drawings; select equipment and components; and guide project execution from concept to bid packages. You will contribute to technical reports, cost estimates, proposals, and client-facing documentation that support critical infrastructure investments. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that requires self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
• 10 years of relevant experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification
• Willingness and ability to regularly travel
• Familiarity with Autodesk design suite, Microsoft Office software, and computer simulation modeling
• Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future

Responsibilities

• Technical knowledge: mining/mineral process systems and facility design; slurry and process water pumping and piping, conveyors, bulk material handling, and plate-work design; crushers, screens, grinding, separation and enrichment process mechanical integration; process equipment installation and mechanical layout design; design of industrial dust collection systems, machinery, and repairs to large mechanical equipment; and retrofit of mechanical systems for plant expansions or improvements.
• Project management: planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
• Field presence: construction observation and surveying as needed.
• Serve as lead mechanical engineer or project manager for large capital projects within industries.
