About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Spark Ignited Gas Engine Performance team within LPSD, fully on-site in Lafayette, IN. In this fast-paced role, you will develop engine systems for applications including Electric Power, Gas Compression, Marine, Petroleum, and other Spark Ignited applications. You will be responsible for ensuring engine systems meet program requirements across performance, controls, emissions, and software, leveraging simulation, analysis, and engineering judgment to deliver on program commitments. You will work as part of a collaborative performance team with daily coordination across controls experts, aftertreatment specialists, design engineers, program managers, and other cross-functional partners. A systems engineering focus and a drive to meet and exceed customer expectations are essential to success in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering or Engineering Technology field required; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong understanding of engine fundamentals and spark ignited combustion.
  • Methodical, data-driven approach to problem solving and engineering analysis.
  • Strong communication skills — able to present technical findings clearly at design reviews and to leadership.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet program timelines and deliverables.

Nice To Haves

  • GT-Power simulation or engine modeling experience.
  • Strong understanding of spark ignited combustion system interactions at the component and system level.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engine performance requirements to meet program deliverables; ensure performance and controls algorithms are capable of meeting those requirements.
  • Conduct engine performance calibration, mapping, and validation in a performance test cell; support validation that final software meets program deliverables from both a performance and emissions standpoint.
  • Perform combustion and system-level simulation using GT-Power; conduct engine system modeling and analysis.
  • Support product validation in test cell and field environments; support field follow engines to ensure products meet customer requirements in real-world settings.
  • Lead project planning; present at design reviews and provide project status updates to leadership.
  • Coordinate closely with controls experts, aftertreatment specialists, design engineers, program managers, and platform and validation teams across all phases of development.
