About The Position

This is an entry-level product design and development position focused on designing communications infrastructure products and supporting their manufacture for professional and mission-critical markets. The engineer will primarily contribute as a mechanical engineer on large or complex team projects and will also work independently on smaller assignments. The role includes supporting process improvements and maintaining existing product lines. The position involves designing mechanical systems and components, creating and interpreting 3D models and 2D drawings, evaluating designs through analysis and testing, and supporting supplier, factory, and prototype activities. The engineer will work with colleagues across mechanical and other disciplines to meet customer, reliability, manufacturing, safety, cost, and schedule requirements.

Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely; employer work permit sponsorship is not available.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform hand calculations or finite element analysis calculations for stress and thermal applications.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively with engineers in mechanical and other disciplines, including electrical engineering, procurement, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to generate concise and comprehensive design and test reports and summarize complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Good writing and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the design and manufacture of die-cast, machined, sheet metal and stamped parts, plastic injection-molded parts, compression-molded rubber, connectors, cables, and printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience in finite element analysis for structural and heat-transfer applications.
  • Experience using test equipment such as thermal imaging, thermal scanners, airflow analysis, and strain-gauge tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare concept and prototype designs of mechanical systems and perform hands-on design and analysis of individual parts and components to meet customer requirements, reliability and robustness requirements, manufacturing processes, and safety guidelines.
  • Model component and assembly designs using 3D CAD tools and interpret and generate 2D drawings in accordance with mechanical drafting standards.
  • Design and conduct experiments using statistical tools and techniques to confirm analyses and evaluate designs for conformance to product specifications.
  • Understand and analyze tolerances and their effects on designs.
  • Work with suppliers and commodity teams to meet tooling and piece-part cost and lead-time goals.
  • Set up and maintain bills of materials and release mechanical prints.
  • Perform mechanical verification tests against product specifications and write test reports.
  • Support factory quality and process issues, provide feedback to resolve them, and support prototype and pilot builds.
