About The Position

Turing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in mechanical engineering, system design, and production optimization to help evaluate and enhance AI systems. The role applies engineering knowledge and analytical reasoning to projects exploring how AI can improve technical reasoning, engineering accuracy, and design efficiency across manufacturing workflows. No prior AI experience is required. The work involves designing and solving mechanical and manufacturing engineering problems, writing structured technical solutions, evaluating AI-generated responses, and collaborating with researchers to improve AI's understanding of engineering reasoning and standards. Projects are approximately one month long, with the possibility of extension. The engagement is a contractor or freelancer assignment and may potentially be full-time. The work is fully remote, and compensation varies by project. Turing does not seek confidential or proprietary information, trade secrets, internal company or university data, specific client information, or information that would breach confidentiality obligations.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Strong English communication and technical reasoning skills.
  • Comfort using web-based tools for annotation and review.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Fusion 360.
  • Experience with engineering analysis methods such as FEA and CFD.

Responsibilities

  • Design and solve real-world mechanical and manufacturing engineering problems to test AI reasoning.
  • Write clear, structured solutions involving mechanical design, materials selection, failure analysis, and production methods.
  • Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with engineering principles.
  • Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of simulation reasoning, calculations, and industry standards such as ASME, ISO, and ASTM.

Benefits

  • Strong compensation, with the exact amount varying by project.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Projects approximately one month in duration, with the possibility of extension.
