About The Position

MicroVision is seeking an experienced engineer in precision mechanical design to join its team in Orlando, Florida. The role supports development of LiDAR and electro-optical sensing products from concept through production, working with experts in optics, electrical and systems engineering, manufacturing, and program management. The position owns precision mechanical components and assemblies within highly integrated systems. It translates system requirements into robust, manufacturable solutions that balance performance, cost, reliability, and quality, with an emphasis on hands-on design, rigorous documentation, and tolerance control. The engineer provides technical leadership in architecture development, trade studies, design reviews, product integration, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience developing precision or complex hardware products.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design, GD&T, and SolidWorks.
  • Proven experience owning products or subsystems from concept through production release.
  • Experience designing components for machining, injection molding, die casting, and metal injection molding (MIM).
  • Experience managing BOMs, configuration control, and engineering change processes in a PLM system; Arena is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with tolerance analysis, DFMEAs, and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D.
  • Knowledge of Design-to-Cost and value engineering practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving as a technical lead, subsystem owner, or mechanical lead engineer.
  • Background in electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, or precision optical systems.
  • Experience supporting products through development, validation, and production launch.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers to optimize design, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Drive concept development, trade studies, and design decisions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and GD&T documentation using SolidWorks.
  • Perform tolerance analyses and support design decisions related to form, fit, and function.
  • Own bills of materials (BOMs), configuration management, and engineering changes within a PLM environment.
  • Lead ECR/ECO activities and evaluate cross-functional impacts on product performance and manufacturability.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing challenges.
  • Develop DFMEAs and proactively identify and mitigate product risks.
  • Champion Design-to-Cost, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and program teams to support product development and launch.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews and key product development milestones.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee health, well-being, and professional growth.
