About The Position

KTS develops complex, cutting-edge avionics and ground hardware and software solutions supporting digital interoperability, survivability, situational awareness, and data collection. We have a proven track record of delivering high quality products throughout the defense industry. KTS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform structural and thermal analysis, validate mechanical designs, and support the design and build of rugged electromechanical components used in demanding environments. This is a full-time position at the KTS facility in Des Plaines, IL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with two or more years of work experience; or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Hands on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Proficient with PTC CREO (preferred) or equivalent 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Well-rounded knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Knowledge of military standards such MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, and MIL-STD-810
  • Ability to travel (< 25%)
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with military electromechanical design and aircraft mechanical hardware integration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analysis using ANSYS to evaluate strength and performance.
  • Perform thermal analysis using ANSYS ICEPAK to evaluate heat transfer and thermal management
  • Generate design reports and analysis results documentation.
  • Collaborate with Systems and Electrical Engineering organizations to address performance requirements such as environmental and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Work directly with Government engineers to identify and validate structural and thermal requirements.
  • Design mechanical components and produce assembly/manufacturing drawings aligned with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and ASME standards.
  • Support design, build and installation of mechanical components.
