Come be a part of our mission! Northrop Grumman is seeking Mechanical Design Engineer Level 3/4 to join our team based out of Sunnyvale, Ca. The Marine Systems organization, part of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, is searching for Mechanical Design Engineers in support of both the manufacturing and installation of Launcher Hardware.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Must be onsite 4 days a week, remote work is not an option for this role.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 5 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) 3 years relevant work experience. (Level 3)
  • Experience in machine design and drawing generation
  • Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Familiar with PLM systems
  • Ability to plan tasks and execute to the established schedule
  • US citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 8 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) 6 years relevant work experience; or PHD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) 3 years relevant work experience (Level 4)
  • Experience leading a team. (Level 4)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in ASME Y14.5 GD&T Standard and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing, and Engineering Drawing Practices
  • Experience in production support such as troubleshooting, RCCA, and resolving production issues
  • Experience developing project plans and communicating plans across hybrid teams.
  • Strong background in machine design, strength of materials, and materials technology
  • Experience in technical presentation
  • Experience in developing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience in working with vendors and suppliers
  • Experience working in a low volume high precision manufacturing environment
  • System Engineering experience
  • An active US Government Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs concept and generate solid models that reflect those concepts
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders balancing technical, schedule, and cost requirements
  • Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate best design approaches to fulfill requirements
  • Oversee the generation of engineering drawings using common GD&T practices
  • Identify procurement needs and support fabrication
  • Provide assembly checkout and test support
  • Generate task plans and support proposal efforts
  • Occasional domestic travel may be required
  • Drive issue resolutions both onsite and with vendors
