About The Position

This full-time position provides hands-on engineering support to plant operations and drives continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. Key responsibilities include partnering with cross-functional teams to support lean manufacturing efforts, improve processes, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency. The role also includes designing machinery components and tooling, troubleshooting production-related issues, and identifying opportunities to optimize manufacturing performance. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to rely on their extensive experience and expertise to fulfill the functions of the role with minimal supervision. This position requires the customary and regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the essential duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical knowledge.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical requirements to production, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD) for parts/assemblies and production drawings.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing systems/ERP for routings, work orders, and part master data.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize production/quality data using Excel (e.g., pivot tables and charts).
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues using structured problem-solving and root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone).
  • Ability to evaluate risk and manufacturability considerations and support corrective/preventive actions.
  • Ability to prioritize work, make sound recommendations, and support implementation in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective cross-functional teamwork and shop-floor engagement.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to maintain accurate engineering documentation and follow established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, and prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and documentation for machinery, tooling, fixtures, and equipment modifications using CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Evaluate/assess the components needed to design or modify equipment.
  • Identify and implement solutions to improve manufacturing processes and mitigate safety hazards.
  • Create work instructions that enhance plant safety, efficiency, and training in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Oversee mechanical equipment installation and train mechanics on its use and interpretation.
  • Skilled in data analysis and quick to resolve problems using root cause techniques.
  • Guide the Machine Shop on material grade and bar stock selection to optimize tooling performance and production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the machine shop supervisor on new tooling, fixtures and other machine components to reduce changeover times.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while providing support across cross-functional departments.
