About The Position

CoolIT Systems is a leading Direct Liquid Cooling technology provider for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers, designing and manufacturing solutions used by the largest tech companies globally. Recognized for rapid growth, the company is expanding due to demand for generative AI, high performance computing, and cloud solutions. The Mechanical Engineer role focuses on the design and development of advanced Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) for direct liquid cooling solutions, leading the full product lifecycle from concept to mass production. This involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure efficient, high-performance, and scalable designs, with a strong emphasis on continuous product improvement, optimizing for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Ideal candidates have a solid mechanical engineering background, hands-on experience with CAD and simulation tools, and strong communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or directly related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant mechanical engineering experience with 2+ years in a design role.
  • Proven understanding of designing parts and assemblies for high volume production.
  • Proven understanding of fluid dynamics principles, especially as they relate to heat transfer and fluid flow in cooling systems.
  • Process piping, P&ID and building mechanical design, particularly with respect to HVAC and fluid transfer.
  • Understanding of pump, motor, heat exchanger, and sensor selection, testing, and validation.
  • Deep familiarity with NPI, PLM, and PDM processes and how they contribute to engineering change management.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for detailed mechanical designs & drawings.
  • Proficiency with advanced finite element computer simulations, particularly in CFD, heat transfer, and seismic analysis.
  • Detailed design calculations; heat transfer, fluid mechanics, piping design, stress/strain, and HVAC.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, analysis, and risk mitigation skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Deep technical review of component and assembly designs, maintaining best practices and enforcing technical rigor in engineering approvals.
  • Management of Engineering Changes for NPI and Sustaining products.
  • Mentoring and guidance of junior team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional engineering designation with APEGA, or eligibility to obtain P.Eng status with 12 months.
  • Direct experience in product design and building mechanical or HVAC industries.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping manufacturing techniques and testing of thermal/mechanical components; familiarity with lab equipment for data collection.
  • Design for Lean Six Sigma or related statistical product design methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the NPI design of Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) through concept development, prototyping, DVT, UL Certification, and PVT to product launch and mass production.
  • Support rapid iteration of design concepts through technology assessment, feasibility analysis, and proofs of concept, oversee the building and testing of thermal, hydraulic, and integrated assembly prototypes for validation.
  • Work closely with core teams, customers, and industry partners to ensure our CDU designs are delivered on time, meeting and exceeding market needs.
  • Collaborate with industry groups to define and influence emerging standards and best practices.
  • Innovate and advance the state of the art for CDU component and system design, maintaining Cool IT competitive advantage.
  • Detailed product design using principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical engineering with a focus on delivering high performance and high reliability products.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, reports, design reviews, and other documentation to clearly explain convey design ideas, test results, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Review and approve designs, drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Continuously look for ways to make our CDU designs better performing, improve reliability, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.

Benefits

  • Vacation and flex days, and paid company-wide shutdown during the holiday season.
  • Comprehensive benefits including Dental, Drugs, Optical, Paramedical and Health Spending. These costs are covered by CoolIT and are enacted from your first day.
  • Retention rewards like “The Big Coffee Break” that reward tenure with additional vacation time and a monetary bonus.
