About The Position

This position provides mechanical process engineering services for designated SMC facilities. The role involves evaluating and developing safe, reliable, and productive processes, identifying and implementing improvements for existing processes, and planning and designing facilities and processes. The Mechanical Engineer will also provide technical support for maintenance and repair, develop cost estimates and implementation schedules, prepare Safety, Health, and Environmental evaluations, and manage the purchase and installation of materials and labor for approved projects. Responsibilities extend to project supervision during installation and startup, as well as project follow-up including documentation, spare parts recommendations, training, and post-project audits.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software
  • Understanding of present industrial practices and equipment
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • Continually seeks to develop and refine understanding of challenges facing the organization
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Kaizen theories and the tools required to make theory reality
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling
  • Knowledge of material selection
  • Knowledge of machine shop technology and practices
  • Knowledge/experience with energy efficiency initiatives
  • Good working experience/knowledge of stresses and strains as related to steel structures
  • Good mechanical knowledge of industrial systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, water cooling systems, industrial cooling towers, steam systems
  • Knowledge of risk analysis and machine safety best practices and standards such as ANSI B11.0 Safety of Machinery
  • Strong project management skills, including budget management, Gantt charts, vendor management
  • Technical writing skills: Operators instructions, manuals, technical communication
  • Ability to understand and apply technical specifications such as Quality Systems manuals, industry-specific specifications

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification is preferred
