About The Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems - Progeny Systems is a high-tech business focusing on software and hardware system integration, cutting-edge research and development, and manufacturing. We provide premium systems, services, and products for the Department of Defense, government agencies and commercial clients. Seeking a Mechanical Engineer to become an integral member of the engineering team in the Sonar and Electronic Warfare business area.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
- Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Strong proficiency with Creo or SolidWorks modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawings
- Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, as well as technical, government, and industry standards
- Collaborative, creative thinker with experience leading complex projects
- Strong communication skills with ability to write technical papers and proposals
- Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others
Nice To Haves
- Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging for shipboard applications a plus
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) a plus
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze components and electro-mechanical assemblies
- Perform thermal, structural and dynamic analyses on complex 3D models
- Create and maintain mechanical solid models and drawings
- Create and manage bills of material (BOM) within data management system
- Develop fixtures and equipment to support testing and production efforts
- Generate design and interface documentation
- Perform product design, studies, development and testing on new and modified designs
- Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer
- Participate in various technical and program meetings as needed
