As a Mechanical Engineer – Heavy Duty Diesel Pistons Operations reporting to the Head of Heavy-Duty Diesel Productions, you will be responsible to develop and test machinery and equipment under the direction of engineering and scientific staff. This role involves developing and writing task analyses, cost analyses, and proposals for new processes or improvements to existing ones. You will select or design parts and tooling to meet customer specifications and work closely with line personnel to ensure proper installation and function of new components. Conferring with established personnel to implement standard operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions is also a key part of this role. You will develop, plan, and model alternate processing methods to test the feasibility of new applications, and recommend improved procedures, process improvements, and/or set-up reduction techniques. Additionally, you will develop and conduct equipment training programs, serve as a mentor, and prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow and layouts. You will also develop management systems for cost analysis, financial planning, and job evaluation, perform equipment and facilities layouts, and develop CNC programs. Optimizing machining and manufacturing processes, reviewing project instructions, and completing engineering drawings are also responsibilities. You will devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components, set up and conduct tests, analyze test results, and record test procedures and recommendations. Maintaining work instructions, establishing root cause and corrective action measures, and working with Industrial Engineers on FMEA's are crucial. You will act as a customer/QA contact for quality issues, oversee serialization documentation for prototype parts, and be involved in all aspects of project planning. Monitoring production equipment function and recommending corrective action, designing and ordering fixturing, and providing technical support to other departments are also part of the role. Developing/optimizing process flow to increase efficiency and preparing departmental reports are also required.
