Job Description US Citizenship is Required Job Summary: Teledyne FLIR is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to work in the Surveillance Systems Division in Orlando, FL. This position will work with a diversified team across multiple locations on high performance imaging and laser systems. The position will require hand-on technical expertise in design, analysis, and testing of mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Designing with a solid modeling CAD program (SolidWorks and EPDM a plus).
  • Ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and good knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced, technically challenging environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the design, test and/or analysis of opto-mechanical parts and assemblies desired.
  • Experience using or designing alignment tooling for opto-mechanical Systems desired.
  • Experience working with EO/IR Sensors and/or optical systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical parts, assemblies, and mechanisms using SolidWorks to meet system requirements.
  • Perform tolerance stack up and fit analyses to guarantee manufacturability and reliability.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ANSI/ASME Y14.5.
  • Conduct design trade studies to evaluate cost, weight, performance, and structural/thermal impacts.
  • Support testing of complex electro‑mechanical and opto‑mechanical assemblies and systems.
  • Assist with alignment of optical components and subsystems as required.
  • Responsible for the mechanical specifications and planning related to electro-optical system design and testing.
  • Communicate effectively with cross‑disciplinary teams across multiple sites.
  • Supporting transition from development to low rate and full rate production, ensuring a well-documented hand off.
