About The Position

At Standard Bots, we're revolutionizing real-world automation by making robotic systems accessible to everyone. Our AI-powered platform enables robots to tackle unprecedented challenges through an intuitive instruction interface, bringing the power of software automation to physical spaces.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2–8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, test engineering, or product engineering for electromechanical systems, preferably in robotics, automation, or consumer hardware.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (part/assembly modeling, drawings, and design changes).
  • Hands-on experience developing and executing test plans (environmental, durability, mechanical shock, lifecycle testing).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform structured root cause analysis (fishbone, 5-Whys, fault tree) and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA principles.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems and engineering change management processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition (load cells, accelerometers, DAQ systems) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Innovative Design: Lead the development of cutting-edge robotic arms and grippers, including the selection and integration of components such as gears, bearings, encoders, electric motors, clutches, brakes, and PCB components. Apply your expertise in detailed part design and selection to optimize system performance.
  • Engineering Analysis: Utilize deep knowledge of engineering fundamentals for root cause analysis, product enhancements, and new component design. Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize assemblies for various factors, including mass, cost, stiffness, and thermal performance.
  • Manufacturability and Assembly: Design products with a focus on ease of assembly and maintenance. Employ Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in creating engineering drawings that balance manufacturability with cost-effectiveness.
  • Tolerance Management: Manage critical stack-up tolerances throughout assemblies to ensure optimal system performance. Select materials and components that reduce cost and lead time without compromising quality.
  • Research and Development: Engage with scientific journals, papers, and literature to integrate the latest engineering and physics principles into robotic arm design.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure components and subsystems are used effectively. Develop comprehensive assembly plans and procedures as designs mature.
  • Electrical Integration: Offer guidance on PCB layout and wire harness routing to ensure seamless integration within mechanical designs.
  • Cost and Performance Optimization: Conduct make vs. buy analyses to identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvement. Assist in the evaluation and purchase of capital equipment.
  • Quality and Manufacturing Support: Develop inspection plans, support quality assurance activities, and maintain regular engagement with manufacturing to incorporate product improvements based on feedback.
  • Documentation and BOM Management: Maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs), ensuring they are updated with the latest parts. Create detailed quote packages for procurement and communicate effectively with manufacturing teams.
  • Prototyping and Analysis: Balance between rapid prototyping and thorough analysis, understanding when each approach is most beneficial. Specify coatings, finishes, lubricants, and their application procedures to meet stringent performance requirements.

Benefits

  • All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options.
  • We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
