About The Position

Teradyne is seeking an experienced Senior Thermal Mechanical Engineer to join our centralized Mechanical Engineering organization supporting advanced automatic test equipment (ATE) and emerging silicon photonics technologies. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex multidisciplinary programs where thermal performance is critical to product success. As a member of our engineering team, you will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, optical, systems, software, and manufacturing engineers to develop thermal solutions for high-performance semiconductor test systems and photonics applications. You will work on thermal architecture development, thermal characterization, cooling technologies, and system-level performance optimization while helping ensure product reliability and manufacturability. We are looking for engineers who enjoy learning, collaborating, and solving complex technical problems. Successful candidates are comfortable working in environments with evolving requirements and are able to bring structure, creativity, and sound engineering judgment to challenging situations. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Master's degree preferred with an emphasis in Thermal Sciences, Heat Transfer, or Mechanical Engineering.
8+ years of experience developing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermal management, and cooling technologies.
Experience using thermal simulation and analysis tools such as Icepak, FloTHERM, CFD software, ANSYS, or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience developing thermal solutions for electronics, semiconductor equipment, data center infrastructure, photonics, or related technologies.
Strong mechanical design, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Experience working with evolving requirements and technical ambiguity.
Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
Interest in mentoring and supporting the development of other engineers.
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to successful technical outcomes.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the development and implementation of thermal architectures for advanced ATE and silicon photonics systems.
Lead significant portions of thermal design and analysis activities across complex product development programs.
Develop cooling solutions for high-power electronics, precision instrumentation, and integrated electromechanical systems.
Perform thermal modeling, simulation, characterization, and validation activities.
Evaluate thermal performance, reliability, and design tradeoffs to support product development decisions.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, optical, and systems engineers to optimize overall system performance.
Support the resolution of complex thermal and mechanical challenges throughout the product lifecycle.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices.
Mentor early-career engineers through coaching, technical reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Support products from concept development through qualification and production release.
