About The Position

As Linamar’s Mechanical Engineer for Robotic Actuators, you will design, develop, and support mechanical systems and components for advanced robotics and automation applications. This role combines CAD design, prototyping, testing, validation, and troubleshooting to deliver reliable actuator and motion-control solutions. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the development, optimization, and manufacturing of innovative robotic technologies.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, robotics, automation, or manufacturing equipment design.
  • Strong CAD skills and experience developing production-ready drawings, assemblies, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on ability to build, test, troubleshoot, and improve mechanical prototypes and automation systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, assembly, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative innovation environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of actuator development experience is preferred.
  • Experience designing mechanical systems for motion-control applications, including rotary or linear actuation, gearing, transmission systems, bearings, shafts, housings, brackets, tooling, or fixtures.
  • Familiarity with gear reduction technologies such as planetary, harmonic, cycloidal, belt drive, lead screw, ball screw, or other high-efficiency mechanical transmission systems.
  • Familiarity with electric motors, drives, sensors, torque or force measurement, and motion-control systems is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate mechanical systems for robotics, automation, actuator, and motion-control applications.
  • Support the development of rotary and linear actuation systems, including gear reduction mechanisms, transmission components, fixtures, and prototype assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, controls, manufacturing, maintenance, supply chain, and external technology partners.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and safety.
  • Create and review mechanical designs, drawings, tolerance stacks, bill of materials, and technical documentation.
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and validate prototypes in a hands-on lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Support equipment trials, installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement activities across Linamar facilities.
  • Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to source components, review technical proposals, and resolve design or manufacturing challenges.
