About The Position

Candidate will enhance technical skills performing introductory calculations and assisting in the preparation of pipeline design deliverables under the mentorship of senior engineers. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work individually and in a team environment. This role involves leading engineer on DOT/PHMSA jurisdictional and non-regulated pipeline projects, assisting with client proposals, project schedules, and client communications. There is an opportunity to take on a project engineer role or develop into a project management role with experience. The position requires extensive interaction with regulatory agencies, project management, and designers to ensure exceptional, on-time deliverables, as well as with clients, construction contractors, and material vendors to develop cost-effective pipeline designs and low maintenance solutions. Responsibilities include developing engineering calculations, pipeline modeling, and solving simple and complex problems, as well as supporting the development of junior engineering staff through mentorship and guidance. Coordination with cross-discipline services is essential for integrated design solutions. The role also involves performing hydraulic calculations, line sizing, pipe material grade and wall thickness selection, and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) calculations, along with providing QA/QC for various project documents. The position requires well-developed organizational skills, proficiency in oral and written communications, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment with demonstrated critical thinking skills. Designs must align with industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET accredited school.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to balance multiple, fast pace projects through communication and prioritization of tasks.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design and construction of natural gas pipelines and/or facilities, potentially including:
  • Clear understanding of relevant industry standards including API 610, 650, 653, ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, NFPA 30, DOT Part 192, DOT Part 193 and DOT Part 195
  • Familiarity with natural gas and liquids pipeline design and details for measurement & regulation stations, mainline valves, and pigging stations.
  • Pipeline hydraulic modeling
  • Simple and complex HDD bore calculations and design
  • Cold weather design experience
  • Working experience and application knowledge of pipeline safety regulations associated with US-DOT/PHMSA or State commissions
  • Working experience and application knowledge of United States DOT – 49 CFR Part 192, and 195, and applicable state pipeline safety regulations.
  • Working experience with Management of Change processes.
  • Working experience and knowledge of API – RP 1173 Pipeline Safety Management Systems, or other similar Industry management system process a plus.
  • Working experience and application knowledge of various pipeline industry related standards such as API, ASME, NACE and NFPA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineer on DOT/PHMSA jurisdictional and non-regulated pipeline projects.
  • Assist with client proposals, project schedules, and client communications.
  • Ability to take on project engineer role and/or an interest in developing into project management role with experience.
  • Interact extensively with regulatory agencies, project management, and designers to ensure exceptional, on-time deliverables.
  • Interact with client, regulatory agencies, construction contractors, material vendors, and other stakeholders to develop cost-effective pipeline designs and low maintenance solutions.
  • Develop engineering calculations, pipeline modeling, and simple and complex problem solving.
  • Support development of junior engineering staff through mentorship and guidance.
  • Coordination with cross-discipline services related to the overall project lifecycle, including civil, mechanical, structural, environmental/cultural, survey, and electrical teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Be able to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to work schedules, focus on details and provide exceptional customer service to our clients.
  • Development of design related calculations and direction of designers from basis of design through IFC plan sets and records compilation/audits.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, line sizing, pipe material grade and wall thickness selection, and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) calculations.
  • Provide QA/QC to plats, alignment sheets, P&IDs, pipeline facility designs, facility response plans, etc.
  • Must have well developed organizational skills, be proficient in oral and written communications and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ensure designs align with industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
