Raytheon Intelligence & Space is seeking an internship-level Mechanical Engineer to support development, integration, and testing across multiple space and airborne programs in El Segundo, California. The intern will perform mechanical component design for opto-mechanical systems using Creo and support assembly, integration, and testing activities in a laboratory environment. The role involves working with junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers on the design, build, and test of EO/IR space hardware. The intern will create or revise opto-mechanical designs and drawings, generate assembly instructions, provide build support alongside technicians and engineers from other disciplines, and apply design-for-producibility and manufacturability principles. The candidate will present work for peer reviews and conduct research on component designs and materials to support the design and analysis of mechanical assemblies. Detailed design drawings incorporating GD&T are required to maintain engineering requirements. The role works with cross-functional engineering and analysis teams on material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing schedule constraints. The intern will also work with change management and process engineering changes in a product data management tool, including creating, reworking, and changing designs as needed. Contacts are primarily the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders, and peers within the applicable program.
