Mechanical Engineer Intern – Summer 2027

Our mission is to make the world safer—whether it’s protecting troops, securing infrastructure, or enabling smarter cities. We design, manufacture, and deploy advanced sensor systems that deliver real-time insights for defense and commercial applications. As we expand, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer for Summer 2027. As an intern you will gain hands-on experience with our custom hardware products. You can expect to gain meaningful technical experience while helping us accelerate our product development, production, and deployment of our state-of-the-art sensor network.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an accredited degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
- Completed Sophomore year or greater by Summer 2027.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.4.
- Recent transcript is required with application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and overcome technical challenges through teamwork and collaboration.
- Strong desire to learn and great communication skills.
- Some experience using 3D CAD modeling tools such as SolidWorks
Responsibilities
- Use 3D solid modeling to design mechanical solutions for tightly controlled enclosures and fixtures
- Assist with or perform structural, thermal, and other failure analyses to meet environmental and structural requirements
- Optimize designs for feasibility, manufacturability, cost, thermal performance, strength-weight efficiency, and ease of assembly
- Create and maintain cable assemblies/harnesses and other peripheral interface designs
- Solve design challenges using a variety of materials and fabrication methods including plastics, composites, metals, 3D-printing, machining, etc.
- Define, maintain, and communicate requirements to 3rd-party fabrication houses and work closely with them through component and product delivery
- Perform design verification and integration of new components and support field testing
- Author assembly instructions and drawings in support of in-house production
- Aid with the management of bills of material (BOM) and other production and fabrication artifacts
- Review hardware parts for obsolescence and identify suitable replacements
- Assist with or provide information in support of project planning, execution, and oversight
Benefits
- The hourly rate range for this position is estimated at $23 to $26 per hour.
