Mechanical Engineer III

Frontgrade Technologies•Carlsbad, CA

About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer III designs and develops electromechanical assemblies for radio frequency (RF) and direct current (DC) devices, from initial concept through detailed design, verification, production release, and manufacturing support. The role uses SolidWorks and ANSYS Mechanical to develop and evaluate designs, and provides technical guidance, mentoring, and design review support to other engineers. The engineer develops new product designs and test fixtures with attention to manufacturability and ease of assembly, selects materials and manufacturing processes, and supports prototype builds, testing, and corrective design changes. The role also collaborates with electrical and RF engineers and with other engineering disciplines, customers, and suppliers to define requirements and resolve integration, technical, and production issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study; alternatively, nine years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, or three years of experience may be considered with a master's degree.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a specialized functional discipline, subject to the education-and-experience alternatives stated in the posting.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing electronic or electromechanical products from concept through production.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Experience with mechanical assemblies for RF and DC devices, including packaging, thermal management, and mechanical and electrical interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical concepts and detailed designs for electromechanical assemblies used in RF and DC devices, including housings, component mounting, mechanical interfaces, and thermal management features.
  • Provide technical support from concept and prototyping through verification, production release, and manufacturing support; work with electrical and RF engineers to define packaging and interface requirements and resolve integration issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to other engineers and review designs, drawings, and analyses for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop new product designs and test fixtures for manufacturability and ease of assembly; select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes; support prototype builds, testing, and corrective design changes.
  • Use SolidWorks to create and maintain 3D part and assembly models, production drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation packages, including appropriate GD&T.
  • Support mechanical design reviews and present design approaches, calculations, analyses, drawings, and tradeoffs to demonstrate compliance with specifications, project objectives, and standards.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, customers, and suppliers to resolve technical and production issues and communicate engineering findings.
  • Perform structural and thermal analyses, supported by engineering calculations and tolerance analyses, to evaluate performance and guide design decisions.
