Mechanical Engineer III

Hamilton Company•Franklin, MA

About The Position

Hamilton Storage develops automation solutions for life science and clinical research, including modular, scalable systems for sample storage, management, and processing. The company is headquartered in Franklin, Massachusetts, with R&D facilities in Franklin and Bonaduz, Switzerland. The Mechanical Engineer III designs, develops, verifies, and validates automation products and subsystems for laboratory and automated storage applications. As a key contributor on cross-functional new product development teams, this engineer leads mechanical design activities from concept generation through market release. The role calls for strong technical expertise and engineering judgment, effective collaboration, and the ability to constructively challenge assumptions and contribute to team decisions. Experience with precision mechanisms, electromechanical systems, and component-level design for automation equipment is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering (BSME/MSME) from a regionally accredited, non-profit institution.
  • 8 or more years of mechanical engineering experience in product development.
  • Demonstrated experience developing products from concept through design, testing, manufacturing launch, and market release.
  • Strong experience with component and subsystem design, including detailed manufacturing drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience conducting engineering analysis, tolerance stack-ups, design verification testing, and root cause investigations.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical design and problem-solving skills, balancing innovation, performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Familiarity with commonly used engineering analysis tools, such as FEA and DFX.
  • Understanding of tolerance analysis and GD&T application.
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and communicate well in writing and verbally in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet schedules.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction; self-starting, open-minded, and data-driven approach to technical decisions.
  • U.S. work authorization and ability to travel occasionally as required.
  • Must pass drug and background screens.
