About The Position

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions for aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging, and specialty markets. With approximately 13,000 employees across 32 operating facilities on 4 continents, Novelis is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The Novelis Ashville Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its team. This role will leverage mechanical engineering expertise to support high-volume aluminum coating and slitting processes through Operational Excellence (OpEx) and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) initiatives and projects within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Mechanical engineering degree, or degree in related engineering field, required.
  • Minimum 3 years of related industrial experience, including planning, specification, and implementation of engineering design projects.
  • Technical and process management skills are needed in this position, with potential ability to work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
  • Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role’s accountabilities.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.
  • Ability to lead and participate collaboratively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aluminum industry preferred; experience with continuous flat rolled product process preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance processes is beneficial.
  • CMMS experience.
  • Experience in aluminum or steel manufacturing.
  • Exposure to TPM, Lean, or Six Sigma.
  • AutoCAD or SolidWorks knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and support all aspects of Novelis safety systems and Safety Absolutes.
  • Ensure work aligns with all corporate, plant, and regulatory safety standards.
  • Ensure safety is designed into all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Ensure vendors and contractors meet Novelis safety requirements.
  • Engage collaboratively and participate in support of the plant single-agenda and plant ethos.
  • Provide Engineering Support for industrial continuous coating lines, multiple slitting machine centers, and facility systems.
  • Provide specific support to fix equipment issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve asset reliability.
  • Lead and support capital projects and other improvement projects from a mechanical engineering standpoint, collaborating for on-time and on-budget results.
  • Support outages and shutdown work in coordination with reliability, operations, and supply chain.
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and internal project teams as needed.
  • Support the site Reliability Excellence process through participation in and support of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, spares planning and management, reliability best practices, etc.
  • Support the Novelis Operating System (NOS) as they relate to Reliability Excellence and Operator Care Practices.
  • Other items as assigned.
