About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for researching, planning, and designing stations and machines using calculations, mechanical principals, and proven practices to create semi/fully automated assembly and test systems. This role involves analyzing customer requirements, working within design constraints, and collaborating with a team to develop cost-effective solutions that meet customer specifications. The engineer will design mechanisms and machines using 3D modeling software, work with vendors, create detailed drawings and bills of materials, and support fabrication and assembly activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • General knowledge of GD&T, EPDM and Jig and Fixture design.
  • Ability to calculate engineering formulas including deflection, moment of inertia, stress, along with applying concepts of algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply mechanical engineering principals.
  • Ability to interpret instructions which are written, oral or drawn.
  • Ability to concept mechanism and stations.
  • A variety of duties requiring judgment to devise new designs or adapt or change standard designs.
  • Make decisions to drive the design direction.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years’ experience in an automation related field, preferred.
  • Occasionally required to travel up to 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Researching and analyzing data such as customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Working within design hour constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.
  • Collaborating in a team environment to ensure designs are cost-effective and meet customer requirements.
  • Developing/reviewing concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.
  • Designing mechanisms, stations, and machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
  • Working with vendors to obtain competitive quotes for major purchased components.
  • Creating detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.
  • Creating detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component.
  • Creating a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.
  • Releasing completed designs to Project Management.
  • Occasionally acting as Project Engineer on smaller projects.
  • Supporting fabrication, assembly, debug, and machine qualification activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications.
  • Observing safety procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performing any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.
