About The Position

Performs engineering research and analysis on a variety of mechanical components. Solves a range of problems. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Designs, analyzes, tests, manufactures, and maintains mechanical components and systems, tests equipment. Applies principles of engineering, physics, and materials science as well as an understanding of core areas including mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, chemistry, life sciences and electricity along with tools like computer‐aided design and product lifecycle management to design and analyze industrial equipment and machinery; heating and cooling systems; transport systems; aircraft; watercraft; robotics; medical devices; and others. Researches, plans, designs, and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Designs, develops, and implements numerical methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics or Structural Mechanics analyses using advanced programming techniques. Conducts research and evaluation of technologies and methods for efficient operation and control of energy, water, and other resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5 years of experience or master’s degree in related field with 3 years of experience; or a PhD with 0-2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
  • Interprets, compiles and analyzes data collected and writes various technical reports.
  • Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Assists with proposal efforts as needed.
  • Builds relationships with internal clients.
  • Contributes to IR&D studies.
  • Supports business development efforts led by others
  • May oversee lower-level staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis.
