About The Position

RTX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Accelerated Learning & Rapid Prototyping section within the Critical Item Production Readiness (CPR) department. This department focuses on integrating principles of manufacturability, assembly, scalability, and cost management into product development to achieve production excellence. The Accelerated Learning & Rapid Prototyping section specifically enables accelerated learning and rapid prototyping using polymer additive manufacturing and 3D scanning capabilities. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with engineers from all disciplines to support mechanical hardware development throughout the product lifecycle, focusing on hardware design for rapid prototyping and product development to meet stringent program schedules. Responsibilities include executing tasks within a small team for product development, drawing generation, release, and changes, supporting internal additive manufacturing lab capabilities, connecting customers to external suppliers for manufacturing, and engaging in 3D scanning activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science or related (STEM) major obtained by start date.
  • Experience with 3D modeling CAD tools.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods.
  • Experience in reading mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on rapid prototyping, hardware integration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience in working with polymer additive manufacturing technologies/processes, AM machines, and post-processing equipment.
  • Experience in additive manufacturing software such as CURA, Materialise Magics, Stratasys GrabCAD, Stratasys Insight, Stratasys Control Center, and Formlabs Preform.
  • Experience in 3D scanning for hardware measurement and reverse engineering applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Support internal Additive Manufacturing lab capabilities, including managing and executing end-to-end AM prototype part workflows for various technologies, machine troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and material handling.
  • Connect internal customers to external suppliers for the manufacturing and procurement of AM and traditionally manufactured parts.
  • Utilize CREO CAD tool for modeling and documentation creation.
  • Support end-to-end rapid prototyping from initial requirement development, to design, to procurement, to fabrication, to integration and test.
  • Perform 3D scanning activities for hardware measurement, hardware inspection, hardware reverse engineering, and 3D documentation applications.
  • Create documents per Raytheon guidelines and release them in the Product Data Management (PDM) system.
  • Manage multiple customer requests, materials, processes, and workflow stages simultaneously while keeping the team up-to-date.
