About The Position

As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Data Center Retrofit Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will be the 'go to' engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation. You will use your mechanical or electrical expertise to own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability. You will perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region. You will interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered. You will work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions, and act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects. As a Fleet Remediation Data Center Retrofit Mechanical Engineer, you will be leading projects to fit out our data centers to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale. A day in the life involves interacting with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to closely collaborate with capacity planning & delivery teams to identify opportunities to increase capacity utilization and develop designs for projects to unblock the additional capacity. You will have the opportunity to work on projects globally and lead first of kind designs for innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong Engineering Judgement and able to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty
  • Detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes
  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
  • Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical equipment or design related to data center electrical and mechanical topology
  • Knowledge of continuously operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment systems, and building management systems

Responsibilities
