About The Position

Dewberry's Jackson, MS office is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer - Commissioning Agent to join their commissioning department. This role involves applying 8+ years of engineering experience and expertise in mechanical systems to a variety of projects across different markets and geographies. The commissioning team has experienced significant growth, and this position is crucial for continuing that expansion. The role offers the opportunity to perform design reviews, inspect building systems, and create testing and closeout documents using advanced software. This position is vital for the growth of the commissioning group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in commissioning and mechanical systems
  • 8+ years of engineering experience
  • Knowledge of manipulating, adjusting, setup and testing HVAC controls systems such as JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens, etc.
  • Complete working knowledge of HVAC chilled water and DX systems, including design, operation, and testing of: Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHU, RTU, ERU, VAVs, exhaust, FCU, etc.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements
  • Familiarity with building codes
  • Ability to make intuitive decisions related to building codes
  • Ability to read and understand building plans and specifications
  • Ability to work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • High aptitude for abstract reasoning, assertiveness, thoroughness, and being very detail-oriented.
  • Commissioning experience
  • Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in multiple control systems is a plus
  • Commissioning process certification preferred or ability to acquire within first 6 months
  • Business development experience a plus
  • Professional Engineering License a plus or ability to acquire

Responsibilities

  • Execute commissioning services on a variety of project types.
  • Actively support and coordinate with the entire commissioning team to execute projects and uphold our commitments.
  • Perform design reviews of HVAC sequences of operation.
  • Create mechanical system testing procedures and test them in the field.
  • Manipulate, adjust, set up, and test HVAC control systems (e.g., JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens).
  • Perform testing of HVAC chilled water and DX systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHUs, RTUs, ERUs, VAVs, exhaust, and FCUs.
  • Review air and water test and balance processes and reports, identifying issues.
  • Visit client facilities and gather necessary data to test mechanical systems.
  • Create system installation and testing documents.
  • Ensure familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and identify deficiencies.
  • Ensure familiarity with building codes and make intuitive decisions related to them.
  • Read and understand building plans and specifications.
  • Work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts.
  • Effectively communicate with clients, construction trades, and design professionals.
  • Work flexible hours and in hot or cold environments.
  • Climb stairs, ladders, and use lift trucks.
  • Perform moderate lifting.
