About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer – Advanced Program Pursuits will support Crystal Group’s Advanced Program Pursuits team in developing innovative mechanical solutions for new and emerging customer opportunities. This position is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and verification of mechanical components and assemblies, including sheet-metal and machined-metal parts, while applying mechanical engineering principles to integrate mechanical and electrical components into complete systems. Working within the Advanced Program Pursuits team, this role will support early-stage concepts, customer-driven requirements, rapid design efforts, prototypes, and technical evaluations. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to assess technical feasibility and develop solutions that meet unique and evolving customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field required or at least 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree
  • Basic knowledge of 3D modeling techniques
  • Ability to translate high-level or evolving customer requirements into practical mechanical concepts and designs
  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis and computational fluid dynamics
  • Familiar with Computer Numerical Control design requirements
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical component industry standards
  • Basic understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to Mechanical Engineering theory
  • Works well both independently and in a team environment and is willing to change priorities as needed
  • Multitasking skills including the ability to work across multiple software platforms
  • Use hand tools (caliper, micrometer, feeler gauge, fluid pressure meter, infrared thermal cameras, etc.)
  • Inspect and troubleshoot computer related hardware components at an assembly level
  • Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (AutoDesk inventor, AutoCAD, Ansys simulation software)

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of mechanical component design or manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of CAD software related work
  • Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of harsh mechanical environments

Responsibilities

  • Support Advanced Program Pursuits by translating customer requirements, concepts, and technical objectives into viable mechanical designs and solutions.
  • Develop mechanical concepts, models, drawings, and assemblies for new and emerging product opportunities, including sheet-metal and machined-metal components.
  • Assist in researching, designing, evaluating, and selecting mechanical systems, components, materials, and processes for new product concepts and customer applications.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of metal parts machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the design field.
  • Recommend the proper procedures, processes, templates, and tools to correctly perform the task assigned.
  • Provide technical assistance for the building and testing of new products and systems.
  • Support rapid concept development and prototyping efforts to evaluate the feasibility and performance of proposed solutions.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for products in Manufacturing and Technical Services.
  • Review mechanical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, as assigned.
  • Provides basic component-level review and in-depth troubleshooting support for product in Manufacturing and in the field as well as Sales department assistance.
  • Assist the systems team in researching, designing, and evaluating systems and/or processes to meet customer requirements.
  • Write mechanical performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
  • Perform detailed mechanical or fluid calculations to compute and establish manufacturing standards or specifications.
  • Utilize engineering theory and simulation models to assess feasibility, sustainability, and operating condition effects.
  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential mechanical engineering studies or projects.
