As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
Your role involves detail design, feasibility studies, and testing. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.
In this role, you will directly contribute to Lam Platform new product development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
• Deep experience in semiconductor vacuum system design, including ownership of the mechanical design and integration of vacuum chambers for wafer transport or process modules.

Nice To Haves

• System‑level vacuum architecture and integration experience, including definition and optimization of vacuum pressure control strategies, pump‑down and vent sequencing, and pressure state transitions across operating modes, with cross‑functional integration of valves, pumping solutions, sensors, and controls to ensure robust, repeatable, and manufacturable vacuum performance.
• Experience in UHV, cryogenic and turbo pumps.

Responsibilities

• Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, design, CAD modeling, and test/validation.
• Design components using variety of metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.
• Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Conduct detailed analysis including finite element analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal, vibration, fluid and gas flow dynamics, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.
• Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
• Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to ensure solutions can be manufactured with high quality, cost-optimized, and to requirements.
• Provide key deliverables including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), technical specifications, risk analysis, test specifications, and design review presentations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers.
