About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Mechanical Plumbing Engineer or Designer with a minimum of five years of experience to join their multi-discipline firm. This role is crucial for their plumbing design team, focusing on large-scale mid-rise and high-rise residential projects. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in all aspects of plumbing design and engineering, comfortable consulting with owners and general contractors, and eager to collaborate within a multi-discipline engineering team. Experience in healthcare, education, and data centers is also beneficial. This Designer will act as a technical leader, bringing expertise in complex project design and execution, and will mentor the team to foster long-term growth. The position aims to support the execution of increasingly diverse and sophisticated projects while upholding high standards of quality, compliance, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience designing plumbing systems for multi-family residential or commercial buildings.
  • High proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit is required.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes: mechanical, energy, plumbing.
  • Experienced with the latest release of Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, and other CAD and BIM tools common to the discipline.
  • Detail oriented, possess a high degree of accuracy.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.

Nice To Haves

  • Los Angeles or California experience
  • B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college in related field
  • Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) or equivalent
  • California EIT or PE Registration
  • Experience in healthcare, education, data centers, and other target markets

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader, bringing expertise in complex project design and execution.
  • Mentor the team for long-term growth.
  • Execute increasingly diverse and sophisticated projects while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and innovation.
  • Perform engineering and/or design work without supervision.
  • Design domestic water calculations and multi-system riser diagrams.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach for the completion of drawings.
  • Design layouts, details, and overall system design for typical, discipline-specific systems.
  • Perform field observations and reports.
  • Work with numerous project teams to assist with project completion.
  • Multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
