About The Position

Tennant Company, a global leader in the cleaning equipment industry with over $1B in revenue and 150 years of history, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their robotics team. This is a hands-on, execution-driven role focused on designing and developing innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems for the next generation of industrial and commercial mobile cleaning robots. The ideal candidate will thrive on solving complex problems, collaborating across disciplines, and directly shaping physical products from concept to production and into the field.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical or related) from an ABET-accredited university
  • 3 years of mechanical design engineering experience
  • Strong experience in new product development
  • Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and computer-controlled electro-mechanical systems
  • Expertise in: GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and tolerance analysis
  • FMEA and risk-based design
  • Data-driven decision making and statistical analysis
  • Ability to model and predict system performance using engineering fundamentals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter who can manage ambiguity and drive solutions independently

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Engineering
  • Project or technical leadership experience
  • Six Sigma experience
  • Experience creating engineering standards and best practices

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems that deliver durable competitive advantage
  • Generate new concepts and architectures to meet functional and performance requirements
  • Define subsystem performance specifications and evolve them over time
  • Create layouts, 3D models, sketches, and schematics to solve complex engineering problems
  • Determine required analyses, models, and drawings—and drive them through release
  • Lead subsystem development from concept → prototype → validation → production
  • Leverage lab and field test data to make informed design tradeoffs
  • Perform root-cause analysis when designs don’t meet requirements
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, and system teams
  • Lead and participate in design reviews (formal and informal)
  • Plan and execute subsystem prototype builds and support full machine builds
  • Own verification and validation testing at the subsystem level
  • Partner with suppliers to achieve performance and cost targets
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers throughout the development lifecycle
