About The Position

The junior designer is expected to apply standard design techniques under the clear direction of the lead designer or engineer. Tasks will have clear and specified objectives, but will require the investigation of a few variables to provide a design that will meet stated objectives. The incumbent is also required to meet design milestones agreed to with the lead designer or engineer. Documentation of each phase of the design project is required for internal use and transmittal to the customer. Technical competence is necessary for the incumbent to apply current industry accepted technology to meet the project objectives. The junior designer will be required to review the details of each completed task to ensure that his/her work is error free. The positions require working with a variety of industries, clients, and technical issues. The junior designer is required to track budgets for assigned tasks on each project to prevent the project from exceeding its budget. The junior designer will sometimes meet with customers to discuss design related questions. The junior designer must be able to work with others. Overtime is sometimes required on a project. Travel is sometimes required on a project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design, industrial equipment general arrangements, equipment setting, and piping plans/elevations/isometrics preferably within an industrial setting.
  • 3D CAD experience in Plant 3D (including modeling industrial equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps…) and routing pipe/duct/cable trays within 3D environment.
  • Laser scanning of industrial sites, working with point clouds, and stitching/aligning scans together
  • Formulating Navisworks models from baseline point clouds and using Edgewise for within the point cloud
  • Cutting plan and elevations drawing from the 3D model, both equipment layouts and piping layouts
  • 3D CAD experience in Plant 3D
  • Laser scanning, working with point clouds

  • Pulling Piping MTO’s from the 3D model.
  • Working with vendor STEP files and incorporation into 3D models.
  • Input pipe specs into Plant 3D such that isometric piping drawings show the correct Bill of Materials.
  • AutoCad 2D experience with equipment and piping layouts but also with P&ID, PFD, Riser diagrams and other 2D drawing formulations.
  • Experience formulating General Arrangement drawings, Equipment setting drawings, Piping and Pipe support drawings (both orthographic and Isometric), P&IDs, and PFDs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of MEP would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the discipline design portion of all scope documents and delivering documents which meet the scope requirements.
  • Using the correct documents (from the ITAC network) and assuring that these documents meet their intended purpose.
  • Following the project schedule as defined in the scope documents.
  • Asking about budget allotted for assigned tasks, tracking their hours for those tasks.
  • Ensuring the quality of work and deliverables assigned to them.
  • Aiding in the execution of the Project Execution Plan, communicating areas of risk and delays to the lead/responsible engineer, and sometimes aiding in the development of the Project Execution Plan.
  • Aiding in the maintenance of the scope documents, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Following the project execution plan; this includes updating the lead engineer and/or project manager on the status of upcoming items in the execution plan.
  • Reconciling all scope, schedule, and budget issues for their tasks by maintaining the proper project documentation (e.g., CRA, telephone confirmations, meeting minutes, needs lists).
  • Discussing all conversations and issues involving the scope, schedule, and budget with the lead/responsible engineer and the project manager and then documenting them.
  • Assuring that the proper information is available for their assigned tasks such that the project can proceed efficiently (on schedule and on budget).
