About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking a Mechanical Designer to execute specific design phases of new product development, product redesigns, or complete design projects. This role involves design responsibility, directing technicians, completing documentation, designing for cost improvement, product quality improvement, legacy product maintenance, and coordinating activities with other departments and outside suppliers. Requirements

  • Associates in Drafting/Design, Mechanical Engineering Tech, or related (or equivalent experience).
  • CAD fluent.
  • Microsoft Teams Fluent.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors in a related field.
  • SAP or other ERP systems experience.
  • ProE Experience.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively across many levels and departments, with flexibility, adaptability, and resiliency.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently monitor multiple tasks and objectives simultaneously.
  • Experience with weldment design, injection molding, metal forming, powdered metal, casting, machining, and other manufacturing methods.
  • 1-5 years of corporate experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and create designs to satisfy product objectives for assigned areas.
  • Perform feasibility studies as required.
  • Ensure design specifications meet overall approved specifications and performance objectives.
  • Manage project requirements for cross-functional teams and domestic/international vendors.
  • Prepare sketches, layouts, and analysis for assigned tasks.
  • Ensure assigned design areas meet cost and timing objectives.
  • Research and propose materials and processes for designs.
  • Ensure assigned designs meet durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality criteria, as well as company, Toro, and industry safety standards.
  • Coordinate assigned design work with the engineer and provide status updates.
  • Coordinate the work of drafters, model makers, technicians, and outside vendors as needed.
  • Oversee designs achieved with the assistance of the Experimental Shop, Test, Drafting, and others assigned to product programs.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities such as Design for Cost Improvement (DCI), Product Quality Improvement (PQI), and Engineering Change Management where assigned.
  • Develop and execute releases, parts lists, assembly drawings, and ECOs.
  • Apply "Total Quality" principles in daily performance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Utilize CAD for project-related work.
