About The Position

As an Intermediate Mechanical Designer, you will join Spencer Engineering, a division of BESTECH and Englobe, working alongside a specialized team of engineers, designers, and technologists supporting the design, assessment, modernization, and maintenance of mine hoisting systems across North America.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
  • 4–7 years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, industrial equipment design, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Inventor, MicroStation, or comparable mechanical design software.
  • Experience preparing mechanical drawings, fabrication drawings, layouts, and design documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering design practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality technical work.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel throughout North America (approximately 25%).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous mine hoist experience is not required. We welcome candidates with mechanical design experience in mining, manufacturing, industrial equipment, material handling, consulting engineering, or related industries who are interested in developing specialized expertise in mine hoisting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety policies, procedures, and culture;
  • Prepare, develop, and review mechanical drawings, design packages, scopes of work, and bill of materials;
  • Complete mechanical design and drafting using AutoCAD, Inventor, MicroStation, and related software tools;
  • Support the design, assessment, modernization, and rehabilitation of mine hoisting systems and associated mechanical equipment;
  • Conduct site visits to collect field measurements, verify existing installations, and document site conditions;
  • Assist with field inspections, equipment assessments, commissioning support, and technical investigations;
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, documentation, and project deliverables to ensure quality and accuracy;
  • Maintain accurate technical records, drawing revisions, field notes, and project documentation;
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers, designers, contractors, and clients to support successful project delivery;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, design packages, specifications, and proposal documentation;
  • Plan and execute assigned tasks while supporting project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of junior team members when required.
