Afinitas is expanding and launching a new satellite technical office in Des Moines, Iowa, and we're looking for Mechanical Designers/Drafter at all experience levels to join our growing team. Whether you're an early-career designer looking to develop your CAD and equipment design skills or an experienced designer ready to take on complex machinery projects, this is a unique opportunity to help shape a new engineering presence while creating innovative industrial equipment solutions. As a Mechanical Designer/Drafter, you'll help bring equipment concepts to life through detailed design, modeling, and manufacturing documentation.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD platforms
- Understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerances
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical design principles
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Developing layouts and detailed designs for industrial equipment and mechanical systems
- Creating manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation
- Performing design analysis to support equipment performance and manufacturability
- Creating and maintaining accurate bills of material (BOMs)
- Evaluating and implementing design improvements and engineering changes
- Collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams throughout the build process
- Supporting troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Utilizing SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other design tools to create customer-focused solutions
- Managing multiple projects while meeting established schedules and deliverables
