Mechanical Design Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

As Mechanical Design Engineering Intern at Collins Aerospace, you will: Support all design engineering activities relating to the development and sustainment of manufacturing for flight crew and cabin crew seating for both commercial and military applications. Work closely with all stakeholders for the production of crew seats, primarily in manufacturing, quality and supply chain. Use CAD software to access, review and modify designs. Use PLM / MRP software to understand manufacturing process, parts cost, inventory status and other product information. Perform classifications of parts to conform with International Trade requirements. You will develop your understanding of the materials and processes that are used in crew seating. You will become familiar with design methods and tools used for the development and sustaining phases of the engineering process. You will become familiar with the standards and requirements for aircraft crew seating. You will develop awareness of Collins and RTX business processes.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software such as Siemens NX, Creo, Catia, SolidWorks, Autodesk, AutoCAD, or equivalent
- Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Siemens NX preferred
- Experience with Product Life Management (PLM) / Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software: SAP preferred
- Mechanical design experience with aerospace / aircraft products
- Experience with materials selection, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
- Experience with mechanical design expertise, including trade studies, detailed design, production transition, and supplier support
