About The Position

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January- July/August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity). As a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-op at Collins Aerospace, you will work closely with engineers supporting the development of aircraft mechanical cargo systems with the design, integration, and test. In addition, you will be working cross-functionally with Customer Teams, Hardware & Software Designers, Test Engineers & Technicians, Supply Chain, Production & Quality, and Field Service Engineers.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software such as NX, Catia, Creo, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk
  • Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook)
  • Experience with engineering drawings
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design for new products to ensure quality standards and functional objectives are met.
  • Develops, designs, and tests mechanical components and systems.
  • Resolves day-to-day technical problems on the production lines to minimize disruption.
  • Participates in technical preparations for new product development and implementation to ensure new products meet the required specifications.
  • Operates CAD software to design components.
  • Completes drawing designs as required to facilitate the engineering process.
  • Consults with engineers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products.
  • Produces products according to specifications using the most cost effective and efficient means.
