About The Position

SpaceX is seeking an experienced Material Flow Engineer to analyze, design, and optimize the receipt, storage, movement, and presentation of materials at Starbase for flight and non-flight programs. The role develops and implements material flow strategies aligned with Starship production goals, using lean principles, data analytics, problem solving, modeling, and project management to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of materials. The engineer designs material-flow processes from receipt to lineside, develops factory and warehouse layouts and storage strategies, models labor and equipment needs, and creates packaging and rack-flow solutions. The role also analyzes performance data, supports Materials Management operations, assesses safety and process compliance, and collaborates with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to align projects and achieve shared objectives. The position is based onsite at Starbase, Texas; remote work is not considered. Extended hours and/or weekends may be required to meet major milestones. Applicants must meet the stated U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; internship and school-project experience qualify.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones.
  • Must work onsite at Starbase, Texas; remote work is not considered.
  • Must satisfy the stated U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working directly on material-flow engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership driving projects in an industrial environment.
  • Extensive analytical skills for detailed data analysis.
  • Experience designing layouts in AutoCAD or similar, including warehouse and manufacturing lineside layouts.
  • Experience with material-handling equipment and packaging design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of supply-chain planning design and warehousing requirements.
  • Experience solving challenging quantitative problems in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement efficient material-flow strategies from receipt to lineside, including reverse logistics where required.
  • Analyze critical part-flow categories and develop plans to support Starbase production scale; use value stream mapping to optimize end-to-end processes.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed factory and warehouse layouts for material flow and storage, aligned with targeted inventory levels and supply-chain strategies.
  • Maximize desired part density using available facility volume and build space-capacity models to ensure adequate storage solutions.
  • Develop labor and equipment models using lean material-flow principles and industry best practices.
  • Conduct time studies, determine resource efficiency, implement procedures to track improvements, and optimize material-handling equipment for supported processes.
  • Develop cost-effective, sustainable packaging solutions for vendor-to-SpaceX and internal facility use, balancing landed cost, logistics density, handling efficiency, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with external packaging and tooling vendors and internal teams to deliver appropriately sized packaging fleets on schedule.
  • Use data-analysis tools to assess material-flow performance, identify issues, develop data-driven solutions, and support operational decision-making.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to ensure Materials Management processes comply with applicable federal, state, local, and SpaceX safety standards.
  • Conduct periodic audits of safe conditions, process adherence to design standards, and equipment adequacy.
  • Develop and lead training for new processes and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams on critical projects; facilitate alignment and stakeholder buy-in as needed.
