About The Position

Reporting to the Vice-President, Engineering and Construction, the Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in defining the organization’s technical standards, optimizing system efficiency to reduce operational costs, and providing expert oversight of external consultants — from the first conceptual drawing to the final quality control audit.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in full-cycle project engineering, from initial component design and technical troubleshooting to the industrial implementation of advanced technological solutions.
  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience. Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong planning, organizational, time management skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage the full lifecycle of mechanical systems, from initial concept to final production specifications for HVAC, chilled water, and fire protection.
  • Mastery of heat load analysis, fluid dynamics, airflow, and pressure drop calculations supported by Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) and CFD tools to optimize and validate system performance.
  • Expertise in creating and managing P&IDs, detailed 2D/3D drawings, equipment submittals, and complex Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international and local building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ASME, CE).
  • Deep understanding of metals, polymers, and composites, including their mechanical properties and environmental resistance for high-load applications.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, resource allocation, and the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a data center

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of mechanical designs for all capital projects, including HVAC, chilled water/refrigerant systems, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems.
  • Contribute to and maintain the organizational Basis of Design (BOD) for mechanical infrastructure, ensuring all project designs adhere to established engineering specifications and performance criteria.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations (e.g., heat load analysis, fluid dynamics, airflow, pressure drop) and utilize appropriate software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, CFD tools) to model and optimize system performance.
  • Create and manage all necessary mechanical design documentation, including P&IDs, specifications, detailed drawings, and equipment submittals.
  • Critically review and approve designs and submittals provided by external engineering firms and consultants to ensure compliance with scope, standards, and budget.
  • Provide dedicated engineering support to the Construction Manager and field teams during the construction, commissioning, and startup phases, resolving technical queries (RFIs) and reviewing field changes.
  • Ensure that installed mechanical systems meet design intent through site visits, performance testing support, and final turnover documentation review.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs strictly comply with relevant international, federal, and local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Focus on designing and implementing highly efficient and sustainable mechanical systems to minimize operating costs (OPEX) and environmental impact.
