About The Position

Under immediate supervision, performs routine computer-aided drafting, technical support functions and develops basic fabrication concepts while conforming to the company’s quality systems as documented. This role involves researching and retrieving information, staying updated on current design practices, performing shop and field data collection, and interfacing with Design Engineers and project managers to maintain optimal programming and machining practices. The engineer will participate in project reviews, update and produce programs, tool lists, and job set-up sheets for the machine shop, and collaborate closely with machine operators, fabrication personnel, project managers, and other machine programmers to ensure smooth and efficient program execution. Additionally, the role includes researching project feasibility and capability, providing technical solutions, developing plans for assembly, machine, tooling, and fixture design, and preparing mechanical and fluid dynamics calculations. The engineer will interpret customer specifications, codes, and calculations, produce detailed drawings and technical submittal documents, and interface with production to maintain fabrication practices. Finally, the role involves researching, specifying, recommending, and commissioning manufacturing equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Design Engineer
  • The ability to generate, read and interpret drawings
  • Fundamental knowledge and skills associated with drafting /detailing including third-angle projection, section views, auxiliary views, general dimensioning and notation
  • Strong computer knowledge
  • Familiar with standard desktop software
  • Familiar with SolidWorks or other drafting/modeling software
  • Experience with equipment design, mechanical and electrical systems

Nice To Haves

  • Strong Project Engineer and manufacturing background desired
  • General knowledge of fabrication processes and welding is desired

Responsibilities

  • Researches and retrieves information for department members

  • Work closely with machine operators, fabrication personnel, project managers and other machine programmers to ensure that programs are made to run as smooth and efficiently as possible
  • Researches the feasibility and capability of various projects
  • Provides technical solutions and recommendations to assist production and assembly
  • Develops plans for assembly, machine, tooling and fixture design
  • Prepares mechanical calculations for design requirements
  • Prepares fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics calculations for design requirements
  • Interprets customer specification, codes and calculations
  • Produces detailed drawing per company standards
  • Updates, devises and reproduces drawings
  • Produces detailed technical submittal documents in support of assigned projects
  • Interfaces with production to maintain current and best fabrication practices
  • Researches, specifies, recommends and commissions manufacturing equipment
