About The Position

Cubic Machinery is a machine tool builder and robotics integrator in Chino, California, designing and building custom machines, robotic cells, and factory automation for aerospace, automotive, and precision manufacturers. Projects move quickly, from concept to a running machine in weeks.

The Mechanical Design Engineer designs custom machinery and robotic cells, selects and sizes components, creates buildable custom parts, and produces SolidWorks models, drawings, and bills of materials. The role also supports machine build, debugging, and installation on the floor, and works with controls engineers on sensors, PLC I/O, and motion. Compensation is $70,000–$100,000 per year, depending on experience.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience designing custom machinery, automation equipment, or robotic cells at a machine builder or integrator.
• Strong component-selection skills, including pneumatics, linear guides, ballscrews, and servo or stepper sizing.
• Ability to work quickly and practically, taking a concept to a buildable design in days.
• SolidWorks proficiency.
• Good design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly habits.

Nice To Haves

• Part-feeding experience.
• CNC machine-tending experience.

Responsibilities

• Design complete custom machines and robotic cells, including frames, fixtures, grippers, part feeders, guarding, and integration with CNC machines and robots.
• Select off-the-shelf components, including Misumi, SMC, Festo, and THK products, motors, and gearboxes; size actuators, linear motion systems, and pneumatics.
• Design custom parts for in-house machining, keeping them simple and quick to manufacture and assemble.
• Produce 3D models, drawings, and bills of materials in SolidWorks.
• Support machine builds, debugging, and installation on the floor.
• Work with controls engineers on sensors, PLC I/O, and motion.
