About The Position

Pfeiffer Vacuum is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to provide Mechanical Design support for operations, supply chain, and R&D. This role involves troubleshooting support for new and existing products, ensuring operational goals and continuous improvement for the product portfolio, and maintaining manufacturing and test equipment to ensure high manufacturing processes uptime and reliability. Requirements

  • Must have strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks within a limited schedule.
  • Must have a strong system and component troubleshooting skills with prior experience in the field of technical support.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, subordinates, customers, and other departmental personnel in a professional and positive manner.
  • Technical writing skills to include the preparation of engineering test protocols, engineering test reports, and manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation processes, especially software documentation such as block-diagrams, flow charts, SW version control systems, and the like.
  • Record and evaluate testing data, alter designs as necessary to bring them to national and international safety, performance and efficiency standards.
  • Proficient with version control systems such as GIT or Subversion.
  • Requires strong ability to work with others in the department to share specific knowledge of products, processes, and/or procedures to continuously make improvements.
  • Prepare and conduct technical meetings/presentations.
  • Preparation of routine layouts, detail drawings, sketches, and diagrams revisions and update of CAD drawings.
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams and Sharepoint (or their equivalent).
  • Ability to communicate with others in acceptance of desired changes, improvements of software design.
  • Any combination of education and training, equivalent to technicians or bachelor’s degree in mechanical design, product design or mechanical engineering providing the required knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the job.
  • Minimum of 36-months in related Mechanical product engineering, or evidence of high aptitude to learn combined with additional job-specific education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced mathematics skills.
  • Must be able to multitask and operate in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a disciplined approach to oversee employer and customers’ needs.
  • Knowledge and skills are required that can be achieved by completing at least 3-year technical vocational training, e.g. as a technical product designer (m/f/d) or comparable and at least 2-year specialist training, e.g. as a state-certified technician (m/f/d) with a center of gravity in machine building or comparable.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Valid driver license.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with downstream pressure control systems and vacuum valves preferred.
  • Familiar with software test methodologies and architecture including Jenkins environment with HIL.

Responsibilities

  • Validation, documentation, and management of mechanical product designs and test equipment for our products.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, product management, operations and supply chain teams.
  • Perform and assist remote, supplier on-site premises troubleshooting and problem solving of existing products.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and troubleshooting of current and future products.
  • Generate and maintain documentation for suppliers.
  • Support generation and maintenance of automated tests and test benches to ensure high-quality and accurate functionality of products.
  • Be involved in the full life cycle of product development from concept through integration, test, and release.
  • Actively support, engage and interact with other development teams in the Pfeiffer Vacuum group to ensure conformance with existing product platforms and communication protocols, processes and procedures.
  • Hands-on problem solving including actively maintaining and repairing tools, test benches and product test samples.
  • Addresses and resolves equipment related problems regarding technical issues or quality concerns by proposing timely and effective solutions.
  • Support and partially independent development of product activities.
  • Support and partially autonomous implementation and coordination of product improvement activities.
  • Carrying out analyses and evaluations to optimize product life cycles.
  • Feedthrough of defined product improvement tasks.
  • Ensuring and optimizing the technical functionality of products by selecting and inserting suitable methodologies.
  • Support and coordinate the advancement of components, carry out proactive coordination within the own team, with neighboring units, and with potential suppliers.
  • Technical support for Purchasing when awarding orders for technical questions.
  • Development and optimization of internal and customer-specific simple variants of existing series products.
  • Systematic determination of suitable solution proposals in close cooperation with the laboratory.
  • Development of solutions ready for submission, independent implementation after approval.
  • Execution and coordination of design tasks accompanying the product life cycle.
  • Technical support for customer and supplier meetings on site.
  • Support in advising the development department and handing over information from the product life cycle of existing products.
  • Support the development department and take-on of development activities as required.
  • Planning, managing and controlling sub-projects from product improvement initiatives change management projects or standard customer projects, in some cases also optimizing existing products.
  • Technical support in assessing quality problems (internal and external) and support in implementing suitable solutions.
  • Product life cycle technical support for laboratory activities.
