About The Position

Join the Detroit Diesel Engine Integration team and play a key role in the integration, packaging, and documentation of Detroit Diesel engines within Freightliner and Western Star vehicles. In this position, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across Detroit Diesel and Daimler Truck’s global engineering network to develop best-in-class, cost-effective engine systems and components that meet regulatory requirements while optimizing fuel economy, durability, reliability, and overall vehicle performance. This role is responsible for developing vehicle-side design concepts, managing product updates for current production engines, and partnering with Manufacturing, Quality, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and drive continuous improvement. A significant focus of this position will be supporting the launch of next-generation Gen 6 engines and contributing to future powertrain development initiatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of experience, or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree, is required
  • Demonstrated CAD experience for part design, part and install drawings, and layout work
  • Documentation experience: part release, charting, etc.
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • An attached resume is required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of heavy duty diesel engines, packaging, and vehicles
  • Experience with Engineering tools: Engineering Client, IMACS+, ERS+
  • Familiarity with CVDS deliverables and milestones
  • Experience designing hoses, stampings

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of Detroit Diesel engine integration through EPA/CARB solutions, model year certification updates, and engine development projects for Freightliner and Western Star vehicles
  • Serve as a technical consultant for cross-functional requirements and engine system design
  • Compile and conduct packaging studies on engine changes and collaborate with impacted parties
  • Meet with Detroit Diesel engineers and project managers to align on changes, documentation, and integration testing requirements
  • Innovate and collaborate on future projects including complexity and cost optimization, performance benchmarking, target setting, engine sign-off, NVH, and Quality improvements
  • Collaborate well with partners: Design, TT/X, Manufacturing, After-Market, Purchasing, EPM, PVE
  • Provide quality and timely solutions to CWOS, exemptions, production problems and field issues
  • Approach problems with a positive attitude, solution focused. Utilize proven problem solving techniques to develop quick and effective solutions for any issues.
  • Participate in implementation of cross-functional ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, and processes as well as product cost and quality
  • Support other areas of the team as needed, which may include Fuel Systems (diesel, gasoline, octane) or air intake systems
  • Lead smaller projects and ensure successful implementation on time and within budget
  • Proactively inform management of project issues, delays and risks
  • Work independently and prioritize assignments consistent with business goals, and successfully carry out tasks on time, within budget, and per spec
