About The Position

Automated Conveyor Systems, Inc. (ACSI) is an employee-owned, successful, and growing conveyor manufacturer seeking a full-time Mechanical Designer for its facility in West Memphis, AR. This is a 100% on-site role. The company designs, fabricates, and assembles material handling systems for customers across the U.S. The Mechanical Designer will research, plan, and design mechanical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic material handling equipment and systems, creating and maintaining fabrication and assembly drawings. The role involves analyzing customer requests, current specifications, and previous designs to determine feasibility, and consulting with production and sales departments to establish design concepts and present alternatives. Design ideas will be evaluated based on factors such as function, serviceability, materials, budget, production costs, and client specifications. The designer will perform CAD layouts and is expected to be proficient with AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D is preferred.
  • Experienced with calculating surface speeds and sizing power transmission components such as chain or timing belt drives.
  • Familiar with various brands of gear reducers, fractional HP motors, flange bearings, and pneumatic components such a cylinders, valves, and fittings.
  • At least an Associates Degree or equivalent.
  • Two or more years experience is a related field or the equivalent combination is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, plans, and designs mechanical, electro-mechanical and pneumatic material handling equipment and systems.
  • Creates and maintains fabrication and assembly drawings for specialty designed equipment.
  • Researches and analyzes data including customer design requests, current standard specifications, and previous designs to determine feasibility of application.
  • Consults with production and sales departments to establish design concepts and presents alternatives to suit customer needs.
  • Evaluates design ideas based on factors such as design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
  • Designs material handling equipment and systems based on customer specifications outlined in factory orders and in accordance with good manufacturing practices, company policy and engineering standards.
  • Perform design and layouts on CAD systems as needed.
