Mechanical Design Engineer

Graham Manufacturing•City of Batavia, NY
•$67,000 - $87,000

About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer completes custom mechanical designs and initial drafting for Graham equipment and systems. Using CAD software, in-house analysis tools, and industry-specific design software, the engineer develops designs, models, assemblies, and drawings with appropriate dimensions and tolerances, ensuring equipment meets structural and performance requirements. The role requires reviewing project specifications, customer requirements, and other relevant project materials to create designs that meet customer performance expectations as well as Graham’s safety and quality requirements. Design decisions must account for national and international codes, material properties, manufacturing processes, supply-chain constraints, tooling, and production costs. The engineer coordinates with internal teams, completes project deliverables on schedule, supports project execution, and contributes to design and process improvement. This position is classified as Level II and reports to the Engineering Manager. It primarily operates in a clerical office setting, with work also performed indoors in a manufacturing environment. Overtime may be required, and minimal domestic or international travel may be required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement objectives within established timelines and work schedules.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions at strategic and functional levels.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team-oriented culture.
  • Ability to maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to geometric tolerances and drawing interpretation.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong reasoning ability to assess a broad range of customer requirements.
  • Proficiency in mathematics for first-level engineering calculations.
  • Sound engineering judgment to support customer-consulting tasks.
  • Customer relationship skills to establish technical scope, requirements, and technical corrective actions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Familiarity with interpreting applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing code requirements.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in a timely manner while dealing with ambiguity.
  • High degree of accountability in meeting commitments.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
